Hi,
I'm planning a road trip through QLD outback in May. I'll start in Cairns and end in Brisbane. I have a car (Kia Sportage 2008, 2WD) with a roof top tent.
Day 1: Cairns - Wallaman Falls - Innisfail
Day 2: Innisfail - Undara Caravan Park
Day 3: Undara Volcanic National Park
Day 4: Undara - Charters Towers
Day 5: Charters Towers - Porcupine Gorge (according to qld traffic website, the road to the gorge is affected by longterm flooding since january, so may have to skip)
Day 6: Porcupine - Winton
Day 7: Lark Quarry Conservation Park to see the dinosaur tracks (I'll book a tour starting from Winton, since I don't want to drive that long on a dirt road)
Day 8: Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum - Winton - Longreach
Day 9: Cobb & Co Stagecoach experience - if anybody has done that, is it worth it?
Day 10: Longreach - Emerald (as of today, part of the Landsborough Highway seems to be long term flooded, so may have to adjust that route, skip Longreach and, I guess, drive back from Winton to Charters Tower and go south from there?)
Day 11: Emerald - Springsure - Carnarvon Gorge Holiday Park
Day 12: Carnarvon Gorge
Day 13: Carnarvon - Injune - Charleville
Day 14: Charleville - Artesian Mud Baths (are those worth the detour?)
Day 15: Mitchell - Roma - Dalby
Day 16: Dalby - Brisbane
Is this route okay? Are there any other/better stops? I do have a 10l jerry can for fuel, but nowhere to attach it outside of the car - so, will I be alright without carrying extra fuel (unleaded petrol) if I get fuel at every fuel station (I get about 400kms with a full tank)? My car will be serviced before doing that roadtrip.
Thanks so much in advance!
