There’s always a non-zero chance that a Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) hits the Earth
Gamma Ray Bursts (GRB) are extremely high energetic bursts of electromagnetic radiation produced by catastrophic cosmic events such as collapsing massive stars or collisions between neutron stars.
Hypothetically, if one were to hit the Earth directly from a relatively close distance, it could severely damage the ozone layer, expose the surface to intense ultraviolet radiation, disrupt ecosystems, and potentially trigger a mass extinction event.
