Greetings everyone. It's been half a year since i upgraded my 3070ti model to 5080. i've been constantly using it for games with a metal stand and for work as intended but never actually knew whether the perfomance and the temps are ok.
What exactly do i want to figure out:
- Determine if the temperature for a specific load is ok
- Better settings for gaming [for everyone owning g16 2025].
- Possible problems regarding my laptop and ways to fix it
I use G-helper with a custom refreshrate >!(use custom resolution utility and edit the g-helper settings as it's written in their advanced page)!< to change the refreshrate of a monitor in case i dont plug in an external monitor. GPU mode Ultimate
The list of games are: Stalker 2, Tainted Grail: Fal of Avalon. Both games are played on 2k resolution with no framegeneration and nvidia smooth motion technologies but with dlss on quality and on ultra/high settings. The list can be bigger but i'm not an enthusiast and, unfortunately, don't have enough knowledge and time to test everything thoroughly for now.
Windows 11 is the stock one from the box with preinstalled apps some of which i deleted if that was possible without interfering with the system.
Nvidia app overlay is disabled as i don't use it 95% of the time.
Backgroundd apps are hwinfo + rtss + frameview (Custom overlay and the ability to measure temps and wattage, clock speed, second for the overlay, better fps counter and limiter which i will not use for the test).
Modes (core an memory clock offest are both +350mhz):
- Balanced - (balanced windows power mode, disabled cpu boost, pl1 50w, pl2 65w, dynamic boost 15w, temp target 85 )
- Turbo mode 1 (high perfomance power mode, efficient at guarateed cpu boost, pl1 35w, pl2 55w, dynamic boost 20w, temp target 87).
- Turbo mode 2 (high perfomance power mode, efficient at guarateed cpu boost, pl1 65w, pl2 85w, dynamic boost 20w, temp target 87).
Turbo 2 is created for testing purposes as some games rarely use more that 37W
What i will be testing:
- Temperature of both cpu and gpu,
- Max and average cpu and gpu power consumption,
- Max and Average CPU and GPU clock speed
- Max, Average, 1% low and 0.1% low fps

Below are the results for 5 min gameplay:
- Tainted Grail - Balanced mode
Temperature is quite big even without cpu boost.
Those statistics are intresting as the nvidia frameview shows the average cpu clock speed as 3200.
- CPU power consumption (max\avg) was 21.797W\19.558W
- Max\average framerate - 97\90
- 1% low \ 0,1% low - 84\69
2. Tainted Grail - Turbo mode (PL1 35w\PL2 55w)
max cpu clock 5088mhz. It shows correct numbers.
CPU temps are really bad. That 11 p-core is dying, no?
11-13 p-cores were thermal throttling several times and average temperature is 91 but i constantly see spikes up to 98.
- CPU power consumption (max\avg) was 36.143W\31.385W
- Max\average framerate - 95\91
- 1% low \ 0,1% low - 75\59
3. Tainted Grail - Turbo mode (PL1 65w\PL2 85w)
10-13 p-cores were thermal throttling and some of them significantly. everything else is the same.
- Max\average framerate - 100\93
- 1% low \ 0,1% low - 72\62
What i saw here are really bad temps. especially for 10-13 p-cores. CPU clock speed is adequate as i can recall my cpu being able to boost up to 5200-5600 mhz for a short time. However, the average clock speed can be seen above.
The game is stable but with several microstutters which become worse when i use intel cpu turbo boost. Let's move on to a different game
________________
- Stalker 2 - Balanced mode
temps are just like avalon with some of p-cores being several degrees hotter. No throttling
the cpu clock speed could also be a bit wrong here as the frameview shows me 3400mhz.
gpu good. wont list it again cause of the image limit
- Max\average framerate - 56\48
- 1% low \ 0,1% low - 39\32
I stayed at the bar zalesye (first safe zone) as it significantly impacts the perfomance.
2. Stalker 2 - Turbo mode (PL1 35w\PL2 55w)
P-core 11 was thermal throttling
average cpu clock speed was around 4200 to be honest.
- Max\average framerate - 65\48
- 1% low \ 0,1% low - 39\32
3. Stalker 2 - Turbo mode (PL1 65w\PL2 85w)
in reality it was 4200 mhz according to frameview
once again the problem ic with 11 p-core mostly
Max \ average framerate - 58\49
1% low \ 0,1% low - 27\24
In case of Stalker i get 10-30 fps more outside the safe zone. This place loads the cpu which is my main concern.
_____________
During gaming i saw that balanced mode with no boost makes the game run more stable overall and combined with framegen/losless scaling/smooth motion it makes the game very pleasant to the eye. However, latency, fps drop and the fact that i can utilize this stability up to 100-120 fps mostly makes me concerned. Especially when i see 104 max cpu temps on hwinfo.
For me it seems that the this laptop might require either a metal\cooling stand for gaming (uncomfortable cause my external monitor is much worse than the laptop's) or some tweaking in terms of perfomance. this is where i might need your help, enthusiasts. let's fix this thing and create a setting suitable for most people.
One funny thing i noticed with the cpu boost is the clock speed rising up significantly when i open other windows (hwinfo being on top of the screen with the game) but generally gaming with\without cpu boost provides 4200\3400 mhz average.
metal pad lowers the temperature by around 5 degrees but does not remove stutters with the cpu boost.

Sorry for such a welter in the text and the lack of precision in terms of statistics. But i hope there will be someone to help with further tests to figure out the best settings for a 2025 model overall, explain the reason for instability with intel cpu boost and also ease (or not) my concerns regarding the temps.
Feel free to ask questions. I'll do my best to answer them. Below are g-helper settings
