Hot take: Kylo was at his peak in TFA
Perhaps it's more so an out of universe reason (Change of fight coordinators) but he feels stronger in TFA than in the rest of the trilogy and it IMO makes sense: Seeing his father again made him conflicted and the murder of Han unraveled him. Making him more unstable and weaker as the movies go on.
