I Passed!!!! (One and Done)

Hi everyone, I just want to share some wonderful news today: I passed the BCBA exam on my first attempt! :D

I was so nervous and worried during the last 2-3 weeks before the exam. That's why when I got the paper (1 page!) and opened it, I bawled so loudly. I had to go to the bathroom to process the big feelings and text some family + friends.

Here's what I used to study: Cooper white book (especially the summaries), ABA Wizard Mock Exams bundle, ABA Exam Review mocks and videos, and BDS Modules (a colleague was kind enough to let me try them). I also watched Jessica L.'s exam review video and tried the free mini-mock from Understanding Behavior.

The exam was tricky mainly because of the all the extraneous details given in each scenario. My tips are a) read the question first (very carefully!), b) look for the detail that suits what is being asked, then c) look at what answer fits what is being asked for based on the choices. Very applicational kinds of questions, too. Rote memorization is not the way!

I also flagged about 4 questions and made sure to finish answering everything by the 3-hour mark. This allowed me to use 45 minutes for some reviewing before submitting everything.

Also: do NOT study the night before and use the whiteboard they give you at the testing location.

Now off to celebrate tonight and recover!!!

I am about to take the BCBA exam - on May 21st, to be exact. I was lucky enough that my colleague was able to let me use her BDS modules, and that is what I am using to review my weakest areas (F and G) + the biggest chunk of the exam content (B). It's tough and you need to really read everything carefully, but it's good practice with regards to recall and application of concepts. The requirement to get 100% is aversive, though. :| At least it's helping me study more effectively.

For reference, I initially took two ABA Exam Review mocks and got 83% and 88%. I did find those too easy, though. I then took the ABA Wizard mock exam A and got 81%.
