Advice on PtP and LR WiFi
I'm looking for recommendations to complete a point to point setup. This would be a Ubiquiti build.
"Which wifi model would be best for covering the house from the garage"
I have a home two houses down from my brother.
I believe he is on the first dream machine(usg was aged out pretty hard at the time). I recall the UI at the time not able to register into my unifi server. I don't know if that's been updated to change that (out of sight, out of mind). Super annoying it couldn't be remotely managed or was very restricted. I might just have to replace it with something newer. I can't be wasting my time going to his house just to make vlan changes.
Can anyone confirm that the full remote management is still restricted by ubiquiti for that model?
Anyway, I have the PtP from a couple years ago. My plan is to add wifi using mimo in his upstairs bedroom to direct wire to the PtP, mounted outside the window, shoot to my garage.
Which wifi model would be best for covering the house from the detached garage. The garage is approx. 50 feet from the front of the house. I don't see an LR model anymore. The U6 might check the box or but this will be outside, should I grab the U7 outdoor and do you think it would cover a 1200 sq ft house or should I plan for another WiFi in the house or play it by ear?
I remember years ago I could look at radiation charts that would give you a good idea on the spread by feet, but don't see them on the site anymore.
I guess that also brings up the idea of using an external antenna to blanket the area on 2.4...lol.
Anyway I would appreciate any options to complete this build out. I don't want to pay another Xfinity bill. Perhaps someone will say just grab some ac mesh's with a dual band external antenna...
I just want to toss up some reolink cameras and be able to manage the entire stack remotely from my unraid server.
