Can we talk about this mod decision for a sec?

Hi so even though this happened a little over a month ago I still want to atleast talk about it.

I hope this doesnt get taken down or get me in trouble at all. But I do think everyone is open to be fairly criticized, especially if they are in a position of power. I hope its taken as constructive criticizm and not me demanding for heads on a pike.

And if it does get taken down for a rule I missed, please mods, atleast hear me out and give me your thoughts. Thanks.

This is mainly going to talk about the ban extension of u/SmallcuteAlula as I thought the way the mods handled it was a bit unfair and completely preventable. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, they have been without offenses prior to this point, just thought it was worth mentioning.

(SLIDE 1)
(As you can see theres censoring, I am taking absolutley no chances)

I wanna preface this by saying I DO agree with the first ban made against them, since what was said was out of line and generally a strange and weird thing to point out. I'm going to keep it vague since I want to make measures to keep this post up if possible, so if you want to see what was said, you can go to their profile and scroll down to "Reason I got banned for a year". A flat 28 day ban for saying something like that is completely fine in my opinion, maybe a little high (if it were me it'd be like 2 weeks), but for this community I can completely understand the decision.

u/SmallcuteAlula follows up on the ban by stating that they "Dont know why I have to get banned for this"
Which is obviously prompting a response from a mod explaining in further detail how something like that isn't allowed in the community.
Something along the lines of:
"Although you did answer the question, this kind of content is still strictly forbidden as noted in our rules. Please avoid posting things mentioning such content in the future."
And if more needs to be elaborated on, it will be.

(SLIDE 2)

However in response to this they are given a 365 day ban.
That is 12 TIMES the original ban, that is an entire YEAR because of a comment asking for further elaboration. Isn't that just a LITTLE extreme?

This is mainly what I wanted to talk about, because I just think increasing a ban from a month to a year off of a comment just seems so out of pocket.
It seems almost personal, even though it isn't, it just gives off that impression. Honestly if I saw that kind of escalation on my phone I'd look at it and go "This is straight bs" because I feel like it kind of is!

The way they elaborate on the comment doesn't address why stating this banned content on a sub about OneShot isn't the right place, it instead avoids the question and states if you don't know why what you did was wrong, then we dont want you here. They also seem very defensive over the game, which I mean, I understand, I love the game with all my heart too. But I feel many can agree it's important to seperate personal feelings when making a moderating decision.

u/SmallcuteAlula responds to this comment saying how they could have worded their original comment differently to be much tamer, and they directly apologize for it. I think this is a step in the right direction overall, they understand their original comment was extreme, and could be written in a much more delicate manner to adhere to the rules of the sub, and both parties get what they want.

Great!

I do still think it is really weird to mention was what said in the original comment.
But if the original comment was changed to something like "They'd probably do bad things and should be kept apart by a 100 ft pole" then I dont see an argument on why the original comment couldn't be worded differently.
They do double down on their statement on how the interaction wouldn't be out of the question, and to that I say, stop talking u/SmallcuteAlula you are digging yourself a hole please stop please please. thanks.

(SLIDE 3)

Alright almost there. There isn't much to talk about here other than stating the ban eventually became a permanent ban because of ban evasion. Since it's a reddit rule and not a sub rule I cant really say anything. I think permanent is crazy but, its the site we are using so I cant really fight against that.

I just wanted to state how it did become permanent, since I believe all of this could've been easily avoided with a simple heads up elaboration on a ban, without needing to escalate as much as it did.

--Closing thoughts--

I know the mods here can be sort of end all be all when it comes to decisions, but I just ask to be a bit kinder with how decisions are made. And maybe open the doors to second chances. It sucks for everyone to see an artist people like get removed for an out of pocket comment. And if they can at least learn and understand why what they said was wrong IS wrong, and change for the better, then I dont see why they cant be allowed here. This also applies to >>>SOME<<< other people with permanent bans, I think others might have fallen into similar situations, and I believe opening the doors to second chances will only benefit the community.

I did start this post by saying everyone is fair game for criticizing. So if there is anything in this post I am wrong about, or anything I need to clear up, please let me know! I'll try my best to answer in a reasonable time frame. I'm sure I've accidentally written a few contradictions in there, writing was never my strong suite, so again if something in there seems funky just let me know and I'll try to clear it up to the best of my ability.

I do think its important to mention one last time,
I'm not trying to start drama or ask for the moderaters heads, I just want genuine thoughts on this.

TLDR:
OneShot artist said something really bad, banned for month (fine).
OneShot artist prompts mod for elaboration, banned for year, 12 times the orignal ban (not fine!).
Ban escalates to permanent for ban evasion, very avoidable if year ban was never given.
In my opinon, bans shouldn't escalate, second chances should be considered for permanent bans.
Tell me what you think.
