High frequency noise issue, trying to track down. Any thoughts?
Before getting going, here's my unit and my signal chain:
- TEAC A-3440
- RTM LPR35 Tape
- RCA Outputs to 1/4" Inputs of S-Patch Plus patch bay
- Patch bay to Scarlett 18i20 XLR inputs
Hey Reel To Reel crew,
I'm new to this sphere, though have really enjoyed working with tape for musical endeavors. I'm trying to develop a hybrid workflow (mainly using Pro Tools for plug-in's before laying down on tape).
The issue I'm having is there is some noise I'm hearing and upon investigation, am seeing. Photo attached to show the noise. I'm wondering if any of you have seen spikes like this and the best course of action to try to mitigate or remove it (without the obvious EQ notch in post or surgical noise reduction à la IzoTope RX). I just tried bypassing the patch bay and going straight into the Scarlett and the noise is still persistent and is actually louder by 7dB or so.
I recently had the tape deck serviced and calibrated to RTM LPR35 tape I'm using. The machine was lightly used back in the day and was unused for years, but in a climate controlled environment.
Thank you for your time and any thoughts/tips/recommendations are greatly appreciated!
