Heard about the Fasting Mimicking Diet for gut reset. Has anyone here actually done it?
Been going down a rabbit hole on this lately. Came across a podcast episode where the host breaks down what he calls "Fasting Mimicking Diet". It's basically a 5-day protocol where you eat 800-1100 calories of specific fats and complex carbs, designed to trick your body into thinking it's fasting so you still get autophagy (cellular cleanup) without the full water fast misery.
The core argument is to not go for strict zero-calorie fasting when your gut is already inflamed. Apparently it can spike cortisol and mess with your intestinal lining rather than helping it. The idea then is to keep calories low enough to trigger the fasting response but not so low that you're stressing the body.
A few things I'm curious about:
- Has anyone done a full 5-day FMD? Was the hunger manageable or brutal?
- Did it actually make a noticeable difference for bloating/gut issues?
- Wondering if the specific food composition matters or if it's more about the caloric restriction + macro ratios
