open surgery and a party

Hi everyone, I have a somber question to ask and I'd like some initial thoughts, really anything. A family member in their mid-60's, diabetic, RCC, anemia, and possible cachexia is having surgery at the end of the month to have their kidney removed. Unfortunately, significant details are not disclosed. We do know it will be an open surgery, not laparoscopic followed by possible immunotherapy.

They are very much looking forward to hosting a 4th of July party. My family is trying to make our plans as we have a very busy June and July coming up. This is usually a large-ish gathering. Most of this think they are very ambitious for wanting to host a party a month out from surgery.

Is this wild thinking that they will be able to have a party?
