If Fatherland gets a Best Picture nomination (or win), would it be the shortest BP nominee/winner ever?
Sorry for jumping the gun while the Palme d’Or results aren’t even out yet.
Pawel Pawlikowski’s new film is only 82 minutes long. That’s ridiculously compact for a serious awards contender.
If Fatherland gets a Best Picture nomination (or win), would it be the shortest BP nominee/winner since 1950?
Quick context:
* Shortest Best Picture winner ever: Marty (1955) at 91 minutes. (Btw, also won Palme d'Or)
* Shortest nominee ever: She Done Him Wrong (1933) at 66 minutes.
* Since 1950, very few nominees have gone under 90 minutes. Beauty and the Beast (1991) was nominated at 84 minutes, and recent short ones like Gravity (2013, 91 min) are still above it.
Would Fatherland set a new record for the shortest nominee in 75+ years if it makes the cut? Or is there something shorter that I’m missing?
