Rotation
I coached an u/8 team last year . I rotated fully every game . The boys played multiple positions every game no matter the score line, got the exact same game time and for context we were in the middle level league. Due to rotating so much we were prob higher level then a lot of teams but this amount of rotation kept us fairly even with most teams . I did notice other teams not rotating as much
We got moved up to the top league for u/9s this year . First two games I kept this level of rotation and we got smashed . Despite the score lines I thought we were competitive but the parents were asking if we could drop down back to our previous division . Since the first two games I have reduced the amount of rotating , played players in their best position with only small amount of game time in other positions .
My question is how much rotation should I be looking at giving u/9s ? How much is too much and how much is not enough ?
The boys have actually responded very well with less rotation looking a lot more comfortable and confident in their roles
*we play 7v7 and when I mention rotation I don’t mean left/right or middle I count defensive and attacking positions
*we play 40min games with most players getting 30mins sometimes a bit more with less subs and at the moment most players getting 5/10 mins in both att and def with 1 or 2 getting less
