Missed testosterone injection and severe depression/anxiety/panic attacks
I will try to keep this as brief and concise as possible. I don't even know if this is the right place to post, but this sub keeps popping up (presumably based on my searches) and I am hoping for some insight/advice.
My (f36) wife (f40) had a hysterectomy about a year and a half ago now. Prior to this, she had severe endometriosis that kept her in and out of the hospital with severe pain which led to ultimately pursuing the hysterectomy. One ovary was spared.
After her hysterectomy, she began to experience anxiety, some mild depression, low energy, and low libido which led her to start looking into HRT. She tried the pellets first because her testosterone was extemely low and several of our friends had success with them. That did not go well at all. Hot flashes, mood swings, no change in libido, and just generally felt like crap.
Started to see a different gyno and ultimately started testosterone injections with supplemental oral progesterone. This was probably 3 months (i think) ago now. She started at a very low dose and titrated up slowly after the pellets making her feel the way she did. It took a little bit but by the beginning of April she was feeling pretty good with increased energy, less anxiety, and overall just feeling better in general.
I will add that she has aging parents with a myriad of health issues that live out of state, a pretty demanding job, and has had a bit of a complex about turning 40. Stressors most people have, but I feel like were exacerbated some by her struggles with getting her hormones regulated.
About 5 weeks ago she missed an injection and did not receive it until 2 weeks past her usual date due to changes in how the clinic dispensed the injections and us going out of town. About 1 week after the missed injection her anxiety began to become almost unmanagable...as stated in the title she began to experience severe anxiety and panic attacks (Chest pains, difficulty breathing, feelings of doom) and depression. This has only worsened despite being back on track with injections for several weeks now. The past 2 weeks have been terrible for her. She is either asleep or awake and crying or in distress. She is barely functioning . She has an appointment next week with a psychiatrist and her gp prescribed her some emergency xanax, a beta blocker to take at night to help with rest and the high BP she has experienced from the anxiety, and Celexa. She took the Celexa twice and it made her feel worse so she stopped that.
I am just desperate for any suggestions from anyone who may have experienced this? I am supporting her as best I can, but I feel absolutely helpless and it does not seem to be improving. We even made a trip to the ER to ensure this wasn't some weird presentation of a heart attack, but everything is normal in that regard. She is going to try and get her hormone levels checked next week just to see where everything is.
If you read this far, I appreciate your time. I'm open to suggestions on things that may be helpful.
