Biggest Garmin annoyances for freedivers

Garmin makes solid watches for freediving (e.g. MK3, Fenix 8 are good). But, there are some things that I just can't believe are still issues. Here is my list.

  • Alarms on MK3 and Fenix 8 are basically unusable. I never hear them
  • I use my watch in the U.S. for running and have it set to imperial units. But for freediving, I want meters so I have to keep switching units and restarting the app
  • We now have good algorithms for determining a safe surface interval (e.g. AIDA and Molchanovs have published formulas). But they're difficult to calculate and the watch should do it for us.

What else annoys you?

Safer Spearfishing Computer

Want to make your Garmin watch into a safer, better dive computer?  For free?

I built a safer dive watch software that makes it clear when it's safe to start your next dive.  It’s highly configurable using the latest algorithms like AIDA, Molchanovs, Taravana.  For example, the Taravana algorithm tracks accumulated nitrogen-load using max depth x duration and recommends a safe recovery duration.  The watch clearly shows green=safe, red=not yet safe.

It's a full featured Dive Computer app that has some unique features not currently available anywhere else:
-5 Configurable Depth Alarms (Descend/Ascend)
-Advanced on watch stats viewable during a dive session (Bottom time, Dive Profile)
-Pool training app
-Mobile App for reviewing your dives and planning sessions

What do you think?

It's currently free.  Drop your email and I'll send you links to install it:  https://in-depth.app/

How to not lose your neck weight

I almost lost my neck weight twice. Here is a $4 solution.

Drill two holes (it’s a soft metal so any drill bit will likely work). Attach a string from a breakaway cheap lanyard. Tie off. Enjoy!

Fits pretty well. I have not tried in water yet but looks like it should work. Also, looks pretty safe to me as you can utilize the breakaway feature to quickly yank it off if needed.

Let me know what you think.
