Is this a thing people do for Forest?

For some background: I went to Forest in ‘24 and ‘25 with a group camp, the vibe was great but I only knew 2 people, the others were from different states. Totally cool peeps, I just didn’t know most of them. This year, the group leader mentioned that she didn’t find enough people to actually have a group camp, so that just wasn’t happening this year. That wasn’t a big deal initially, since my girlfriend was going to go with me. But she just recently found out about a significant family emergency so she’s going to be out of the country during the last two weeks of June. so I was just planning to go solo, but… I really like the vibe of a cool group camp!

I’ve heard of folks joining a group camp (through discord, etc.) that needs/accepts more people, is that really a thing though? Would it be weird to just join a random group of people? I wouldn’t be opposed, just wanted to get the Forest fam to chime in, esp. if you’ve done something like this before. I’m definitely going to Forest, but I’ve always been part of a group, it would be my first time going solo, it’s slightly intimidating… thoughts, advice?
