23 year old temperature and pressure relief valve - does it require replacing?
Hey all. I recently moved into a rental property and found my power bills are higher than expected. I traced the issue to the 23 year old hot water cylinder. What I found more concerning was that the TPR valve is also approximately that old, as the manufacturer exited the water heating business in 2002.
After doing some good old googling, I found that TPRs are supposed to be replaced every 5 years. I emailed the property manager requesting that they hire a plumber to replace the valve (and added my concerns about the age of the cylinder as well, though I was highly doubtful they'd do anything about that). Of course, they've replied saying that if I'm not reporting any operational issues I can go pound sand (to paraphrase). It's true that I can't see any leaks or anything, but is the age of the valve itself not a safety risk? Or am I overreacting?
I just want to check whether this is worth digging my heels in about or not. My biggest issue here isn't the high power bills (though that is infuriating), it's safety. Thank you everyone.
