Monkey Island Anthology - we should stop
So, another "limited" collectible has coming out just to be sold out in minutes, leaving the rest of us blue balled and to be reselled on secondary markets to insane prices (impressive job sclapers). I find myself in this situation (as you, i suppose) many times already, and i honestly had enough.
I understand the general idea of the limited run can be to ensure to pre-sell every single copy, plus putting the customers in a "urgent state of mind" to push them in to buiyng stuff withouth a second thought, and yes it work, and it works pretty good, but is a dishoenst practice and it should die. Why not a print on demand? why not a second batch? this one is 7000 copy..WORLDWIDE...so basically nothing. This market is just shitty and we are to blame, cause we are the one that keep validating this behaviour.
I have friends that are really into in the "pre-order" thing and still be the last on getting what they have hand theyr money upfront for XD but nontheless, you can bet your money they are gonna do it again next time.
when you want to express a love for something that isnt real (like a story or a video game) you have no way to do so but to buy something physical. We cant touch love, but we can touch a box for example, thats why is so annoyng to us when we cant buy certain items (unless you are a scalper, than your objective is another) therefore our impulse to BUY, and BUY IT NOW!
But first i want to point out two problems with our habit:
First and more important: we are telling this mother fucker to keep doing that(they even named themself "limited run"...very upfront)
Second:... we arent really looking on what we are buyng (cause we are buyng the idea)
Have you actually check the moneky island anthology? while browsing to check if it still was avaible somewhere i take a good look at it, and i end up a little disappointed
If all the picture are correct, - let me repeat IF the immages are correct- the really DID NOT have made a good job.
is a collector item, made to celebrate the anniversary of the francise. So you would expect a certain level of QUALITY. i wont list all the error and bad choice but i want to give you a general idea:
they didnt put the game in order on the box.. Moneky island 1. than2...than ..4 (eh?) than 3... are you guys even familair with the francise you're making the box for? the error is mirrored also on the cd case..
you'll nont have all the game,the last one is absent (witch is out for a while now..timing isnt the deal here)
the first 2 arent even the original! but the re-relased versions of 2009/2010 witch are ugly as fuck (in my hopinion though, you might like it, not here to judge your taste man)-
Also (but this is MY personal consideration) why do you put all of them on a pen drive... if you really wanted to be "nostalgic" there are floppydick shaped pen drive. If i wanted to play the first two moneky island i just have to download the rom and the Scummvn emualtor. Litterally 10 second away from playng the game! The 3rd? few money on GOG and is your forever in many languages (i dont even KNOW what languages are avaible in the Anthology)
the conclusion is that we just need to stop feeding this market, teach this company that "limited/elite /and whatnot" stuff are not a thing anymore(it should NOT be) cause lets be real here: surely there are way more than 7000 people that would have gladly buy this box for what is sold for! what the point in making it "more exclusive"?
