New NYC cyclist – How do I improve to club speeds?
Hi all! I’m a late-20s F in NYC, fairly new to road cycling but coming from a running/fitness background. I just got a Canyon Endurace and have been riding the West Side Highway for a few weeks.
• Average Speed: ~24 km/h (15 mph) for 1-1.5hr
• Gear: Full kit (jersey/bibs).
I’m getting passed constantly by cyclists who seem to ride so easily, and wondering if my speed will naturally increase as I ride more, or if I should be focusing on specific training (cadence, intervals, etc.) this early on, or if I’m doing anything wrong
Two questions:
- Is 24 km/h a solid baseline for a beginner?
- What’s the "entry-level" pace for some NYC cycling clubs?
