A New AI Rule Has Been Added
Based on the discussion in this thread, I have decided to add a new rule discouraging the use of AI generated art. Please take a look at the community rules in the sidebar for more details. As for the use of generative AI in other areas, such as coding or writing, that is up to your own discretion.
There is no definitive way to know whether someone has used generative AI in a piece of work where it is not obvious so I encourage anyone who is heavily reliant on AI to instead learn how to code and create art themselves.
For those who my ask why specifically AI generated art will be heavily moderated but not code?
The art community has been consistently against AI generated art, the same cannot be said about the engineering community. Code and art are very different when it comes to expectations and concerns around reuse. Reusing and building upon existing code is a normal expectation in the industry. Copying and pasting code from Stackoverflow was at one point in time every programmers right of passage.
Now this does not mean engineers widely accept AI or don't have issues with data centers having a harmful impact on the environment. But if we are talking about AI generated code, most engineers are more concerned about people creating programs they don't fully understand, not necessarily that they used AI.
