Need a reality check
I’m 24(2 years out of college) and honestly feel like I need a genuine reality check.
I make $65k/year base in medical imaging sales, and thus far this year I’ve made roughly another $20k in bonuses. It’s looking like I’ll probably do something similar on the back half of the year too, which I’m very proud of and genuinely appreciative of. Financially, I have around $40k in savings, about $19k in a brokerage account, and around $11k in my Roth IRA. My monthly expenses are roughly $2,200, and I’m trying to continue growing professionally and move into a higher-paying clinical specialist role over the next couple years.
The issue is that despite all of this, I constantly feel behind compared to people online. Social media absolutely destroys my perspective sometimes. I’ll see people my age posting luxury apartments, expensive cars, six-figure jobs, crazy investment gains, nonstop vacations, etc., and it makes me feel like I’m underachieving even though logically I know I’ve worked hard and have made solid progress for my age.
I guess I’m just looking for honest outside perspective from people who are older or more experienced. Am I actually in a good spot for 24, or has social media completely warped my expectations? How do you stop comparing your real life to everyone else’s highlight reel?
