Concerned OC citizens will gather this Friday (7/31/26) at 6pm in Fountain Valley (FV) to discuss Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPRs) in the city.
We will meet in front of Del Taco at Warner near 405 at 6pm to get a closer look at a Flock ALPR camera, and have a low-key discussion about our concerns.
Why are we concerned? Flock is scanning our vehicle's features (license plate, dents, stickers) and uploading them to a centralized database without our consent.
OTHER law enforcement can up to a month after the scan decide that they are suspicious of you and then check the database for where you have been. The system has already been used illegally, and given recent federal actions, I hope you can see how dangerous this is - read more here.
Our main goal with this meeting is to educate about the system and how it got into FV. A second goal would be to encourage people to attend the FV city council meeting on Tuesday 8/4/2026 to express their views.
You do not have to be a FV resident to attend! Since this Flock system tracks everyone who passes through FV, anyone who has visited the city is also impacted by these cameras!
Drop a comment below with any questions or concerns.
See you there!!!
edit: changed "nationwide database" to "centralized database" to be more accurate
