I’ve got two, totally separate issues with my back grass which I’ve been trying really hard to improve.

One is that I have a few clusters of really thick, coarse grass (?) which seems to grow outwards. It’s spreading, so think I need to act on it!

The second is that my MIL very (un)helpfully spread some form of seed/weedkiller mix that she found in our shed on the grass. It’s burnt huge sections of my grass as it had been damp and clustered and she just went with it, which has caused it to be too overconcertated.

Any advice? Bit of a novice here but I had been working on this grass for 2 years so I’m gutted to see it like this

I have a pergola which is fixed to the ground and surrounded by porcelain slabs but would love a wisteria to climb it.
I’ve been considering a planter similar to the one in the picture and placing this to hug one of the legs of the pergola.
My garden is south facing so gets great sun.
My question is, would this work or is it not worth the faff?
