Roommates asked me to move out of our Heights apartment after a year of conflict. Where do I stand?
I live in a shared unit at The Heights (separate rooms and bathrooms). My roommates sent me a letter asking me to voluntarily ask management for a transfer or move, citing over a year of issues: late-night noise, laundry at odd hours, messy common areas, and using their paper towels and utensils. They also mention a dryer incident where Vaseline/dye ruined a load of their laundry, which I own up to.
I admit some of it has merit. But I dispute the noise claims, since I've been coming home at reasonable hours this past year, the inappropriate comments that I have not made, and the messy common areas which I have not made. They say the next step is documenting through Penn State or the non-emergency police line.
Questions:
Can roommates pressure someone to transfer, or is it purely voluntary?
Do property managers usually waive transfer fees in roommate conflicts?
Should I offer to reimburse the laundry and supplies up front?
Has anyone dealt with Penn State off-campus conduct complaints? What should I expect?
Any advice from people who've been through this is appreciated.
