I’m wondering if moving Savor/Venture cards onto the Discover network could change how some merchants code compared to the current Capital One setup.

For example, my Savor Mastercard doesn’t earn 3% at a local movie theater near me but does at other national franchises. I’m curious whether a Discover-network version might categorize that merchant differently and change the earnings.

It’s probably too early to know, but has anyone seen data points or noticed differences in merchant coding between Discover and Mastercard?

Edit:
To clarify, I am just genuinely curious, as I believe card issuers can decide what merchant coding is considered to qualify as certain categories. I have no gripes either way since I have other cards that cover my bases.
