Do you think the Trump/IRS settlement should be legal?
Trump is dropping his lawsuit against the IRS in exchange for the DOJ using taxpayer dollars to create a $1.7B fund that the President will control.
As far as I can tell, any future President could bring a lawsuit against their own administration and, however frivolous, choose to settle it with themselves, thereby giving themselves an arbitrarily large taxpayer-funded pool of money outside the Constitutionally mandated Congressional appropriation process.
Should that, under the US Constitution, be legal? I expect most of you trust Trump to use that money wisely, but does this set a bad precedent for a future President you trust less?
