Help greasing an old fan
I bought this fan in Santiago, Chile two years ago for around $35. This is the first time I opened it trying to "restore" it to its glory days... In fact, this is my first time ever opening and disassembling a fan by myself.
Ok, here is the problem: I washed every plastic piece and re-applied grease to three plastic gears that allow the fan to oscillate from left to right. When I reassembled it and turned it on, I immediately noticed that at the lowest speed the thing didn't spin as fast as it should, so I wonder if the grease I used was too dense for the motor.
Could you give me some advice regarding what grease to use on the gears? Also, is there a special oil I can use to lubricate the rotor without opening the motor housing? I don't want to break the rivets that seal the copper coils' compartment.
Also, when I turn on the fan, I notice a strange noise coming from it. It's hard to describe, but it sounds like a heavy electric humming mixed with mechanical friction. Here is a link to the video:
I attached a photo of the fan itself, the before and after and finally the specs of the grease I found in my storage room.
Please guys, help me clean this dirty little fan without killing it in the process. Thank U!!
