Copperplate 6mm vs 4mm x height

I’m wanting to transition to a more practical size copperplate so that well… it can be practical to write with in daily stuff if I choose to. Been learning at 6mm which is great but going to 4mm is cramping my finger movement with the shading on every down stroke. I started the first few words and then sort of gave up on the shading and went monoline. The cramp was making my lines squiggly .. what am I doing wrong. I know I can’t have a death grip but I need the pressure.

I suspect it’s the Nikko G nib I’m using which is stiff which is ok for 6mm where I can get the thick and thin but everything suffers going smaller

What else could be wrong? I use the tripod hold with the pen staff at about my index finger knuckle or forward of it.
I know arm movement but can you really doing arm movement at 4mm or even 3mm? I still find 4 mm large.

I have the Leonard principle EF, Gillott 170 (this one is suuuper flexible but ink runs out every letter)

Stamina at 6mm to keep good letter forms is also a challenge as it does get tiring writing a sentence!

Any experience, ideas, suggestions, tips to transition to 3mm would be great

Thank you !

Making a cruise stop at Stockholm - visit family or take a shore excursion?

Hi all

As the title says I’m in a dilemma. I have seen my relatives a couple visits in the past and just stayed in their house and outings depended on them. Now im doing a cruise and one stop will be there and my family is going to visit my relatives obviously and they don’t care about touring. Theyre older. The ship is leaving port 5:30pm

There’s really only one shore excursion for 7 hours and ends 3:30pm.

I dunno what to do. Skip relatives and take the excursion where I know I’ll get to see the city and MAYBE catch them dropping off my family back to the ship ? That would have to be arranged of course. Not sure it’s even possible I have run it by them yet. I need to decide what I want to do first. If I use the day to visit them it’ll be lunch at their house, chit chat the house maybe go to a shopping mall or some low key outing.

If the shore excursion ends at the boat 3:30pm maybe my relatives could get me and I can hang out with them an hour and half ?

I WOULD like to see the city on a tour which would be more engaging for me but I also would like to visit my relatives in their home. I’m told my relatives are great at home decor etc and maintain their home very well. I always hear it from everyone.

Other relatives are also convening in Stockholm so we’re all meeting there …… :\ I don’t want to miss out on either … :S help!

Is John Neal Books and Paper Ink Arts the only place to buy pointed pen nibs (eg Hunt 22, Nikko G , leonardt principle ), dip pen inks (Tom Norton walnut ink) in the world?

International shipping from those sites is atrocious…and if you’re just buying a nib ….

Can anyone recommend some hidden gem in Toronto that’s not a fountain pen store that only sells fountain pens?

Thanks!!

I’m looking at all these books and it’s hard to know if it’s necessary to get them all.

Either the mott media books and Michael Sull’s books are going to be a commitment to go through. Which one should I do?

Also I can’t find much info about the advanced and beginner tablet of Michael Sull. Are these just blank lines just at bigger or smaller x height? If so are they worth getting or could I not print off the same thing from the internet. Or are there copy lessons in them as well as a blanks sheets?
They are $22 USD on John Neal books each …
Has anyone used them and are they worth getting?

The practice set for Michael looks useful. Would this be more efficient for progressing than the 5 mott media books ?

I’m looking for any resources on connecting letters, forming words. I’ve practiced the individual letters but I’m struggling to connect letters without either examples a-z combinations or guide sheets to show me how each combo is connected . How did you guys learn? Thanks
