Copperplate 6mm vs 4mm x height
I’m wanting to transition to a more practical size copperplate so that well… it can be practical to write with in daily stuff if I choose to. Been learning at 6mm which is great but going to 4mm is cramping my finger movement with the shading on every down stroke. I started the first few words and then sort of gave up on the shading and went monoline. The cramp was making my lines squiggly .. what am I doing wrong. I know I can’t have a death grip but I need the pressure.
I suspect it’s the Nikko G nib I’m using which is stiff which is ok for 6mm where I can get the thick and thin but everything suffers going smaller
What else could be wrong? I use the tripod hold with the pen staff at about my index finger knuckle or forward of it.
I know arm movement but can you really doing arm movement at 4mm or even 3mm? I still find 4 mm large.
I have the Leonard principle EF, Gillott 170 (this one is suuuper flexible but ink runs out every letter)
Stamina at 6mm to keep good letter forms is also a challenge as it does get tiring writing a sentence!
Any experience, ideas, suggestions, tips to transition to 3mm would be great
Thank you !
