So I finished both of them here is my opinion of Part I
I gotta say The last of us 1&2 both are really masterpieces, I get why there was so much hype about it and I hope for a third or even a fourth part of Ellies or the Baby’s Story
I will toss my opinion here so SPOILERS ahead.
Let‘s start from the Start, like where it all begins: Part I
At first you see Joel being happy with his daughter, his daughter terribly dies on his arms. To show you as a Player how fast and how terrible the outbreak was.
For Joel it die symbolize the start of something way bigger and while he had no clue about the virus itself, this scwne clearly stood out to mark the beginning of his journey.
First I was confused about the timeskip after she died, cuz one moment I am at the start of the outbreak and right at the next second We are playing Joel few years later. I get that this is where his lofe started getting twisted up, but… was the Timeskip really necessary?
We could‘ve gone through his pain first like the whole „My Daughter died in my arms“ story where he tries to run away from the past and shows us how he ended up with smuggling stuff.
Well anyways:
Ellie got introduced perfectly in a Time in his Life where things for him are as normal as it can be.
The whole build up like she is immune and they need to find the fireflies, which went all to another location. Was just Perfect.
I understood why Joel went to safe her completely. I bet every Person with a son or a daughter would do the same. Even though it was selfish. I think the keypoint in the whole „I safe her instead of the whole humanity“ is that he sees his daughter in Ellie, and I do understand that. I mean no one would want his child to die. Am I right?
The ending of Part I for me was very very abrupt.
I didnt expect the ending being a single word and like CUT.
Part I showed us that Joel for the sake of Ellies safety, would do everything for her to be safe.
But this last scene of him talking to Ellie about the Situation, and just saying „I swear its th truth“ even though Ellie doesnt trust him in that case (I think she knew since her expression was looking like it), she answered with „okay“
Part I was really emotional the ending was so weird and didnt feel rigjt but made me want to see what the next part has to offer. And this is clearly what a game should do, make you curious.
The ending of part Iwas meant to make you feel bad. And it hit the sweetspot of feeling bad but also thinking that maybe its better for her not to know?
