I I need some help with the game. I was fighting an independence faction, and I lost a battle for unknown reasons.

We had 200k troops, the enemy had 80k, and we still lost. I had maxed out my men-at-arms in every possible way (heavy cavalry and infantry, crossbowmen). My domain was maxed out with military buildings, and I had hired mercenaries, yet we still lost. I assume this was because of a game mechanic I don't understand or know about.

Could you please help me understand the situation? Thanks in advance.
