How to go faster??

Until last year I rode ultra distances on conventional bikes, on gravel and road. A spinal chord tumour, and subsequent spinal fuse has moved me into a recumbent trike with a head rest (Hase Kettweisel).

I am finding I am nowhere near as fast as I used to be. I’ve made some tweaks which have improved it massively but am finding 1) it’s much harder 2) gearing is very low and not much room to increase this.

I’m wondering if there are any recumbent bike/trike companies that are aimed at users spending all day in the saddle covering long distances? The head rest is essential, three wheels a preference. I would love to get back to ultra racing.

Perhaps the extra wheel, extra weight, small gearing, and lack of body weight in pedal stroke just contribute to lower speed. If so, so be it, but curious to see if there are any other racers out there.
