The Reserve Wheel Build Tech Sheet - Mountain lists these:

• All mountain wheel use Sapim Secure Lock Aluminum, Double Square, 16g, 18mm. Alternative nipples can be used in combination with DT Swiss Spoke Freeze.
• For the "SJ DT 350 148MS 6b 32h|RSV 30 HD AL 29" combo, the spokes are:
  • 290mm on both sides
  • Sapim Race spokes - double butted, 2.0-1.8-2.0 / 14g-15g-14g
• 3x pattern for 28 and 32 hole wheels

Why is Reserve calling for a spoke with 14g butted ends, but a 16g nipple? Why 18mm nipples?

I could copy their recommendations (sub with brass nipples), but are there better options for spokes & nipples?
