Recommendation Thursday 💍🌍

Title: Our Not-So-Lonely Planet Travel Guide/Bokura no Chikyuu no Arukikata 💍🌍

Status: complete (7 volumes).

Synopsis: super serious Asahi Suzumura and laidback, easygoing Mitsuki Sayama might seem like an odd couple, but they made a deal; they'll vacation around the world and when they get back to Japan, they'll get married. As they travel from country to country, the different people, cultures and cuisine they encounter begin to bring them closer together. After all they're not just learning about the world, but about themselves too.

Mangaka: Mone Sorai

Genre/Tags: adventure, romance, slice of life, shounen-ai, established couple, cuisine, travel, photography.

My review: I’ve read this manga throughout the years. Whenever I felt like I needed a break from the dark/toxic stuff and I was craving a dose of wholesomeness, I’d pick up a volume. This manga was written with so much love for other cultures, their history, the various cuisines of the world and most importantly, love for the LQBTQ+ community. Mone Sorai’s art was beautiful. I especially loved how she nailed all the key landmarks in each country they visited, there was so much attention to detail. Some might find it wonky at times, but I thought it added more character and charm to our leads. I also enjoyed the cuisine. Every dish they tried looked incredibly delicious and I got plenty of in-depth recipes from them that I’ll probably never cook but saved anyway. When I recommended this to my sister, her only downside was the travelogue. As a travel lover and someone who’s always on the lookout for their next trip, I didn’t mind it at all! Also as the volumes go on, Sorai learns to perfect the balance between the travelogue and relationship segments. Their relationship was sweet and realistic, even during their quarrels, you can tell that they deeply care for each other. Their growth was impeccable. I lived for their interactions with the people of each country they set foot in, they met proud queers who perhaps they saw their future reflected back at them, closeted ones and even heteros who they could open up to. Just like a trip around the world, the journey to self-acceptance isn’t linear, rather a meandering road shaped by the people one meets along the way, much like the one our protagonists are on.

Where to read: Tokyopop

P.S. no. 9 is a pic I took of the Sagrada Família from my trip to Barcelona. I tried to find a similar pic to the panel in slide 8 to showcase Sorai’s attention to detail.

Plz do let me know if you attempt to read any of my recs. I’m trying to recommend works that I genuinely love which aren’t that known and deserve more recognition imo. Also, is my format good? Would love to hear your feedback! I feel like I’m always blabbering, especially in the review part hehe. Should I only do the synopsis and keep it moving?

Recommendation Thursday ⚾️ (Late Edition but oh well, better late than never)‼️

New week, new recommendation! I’m always sharing today’s gem in the comments and people often tell me that they’re obsessed after reading the 1st chapter. Hopefully you guys will be too!

Title: Curveball and Splitter ⚾️

Status: ongoing

Smut: no but it’s still steamy.

Synopsis: A one-night mistake brings Yesol to the doorstep of Hanrim, a cold yet familiar face from his high school baseball team. Only now, Hanrim isn’t just cold—he’s holding a grudge. What exactly happened between them, and why can’t Yesol remember?

Author & Artist: Yakkuk/Bad Pharmacy

My review: This manhwa is eloquently written, the art is phenomenal, which isn’t surprising in the slightest bc all of Yakkuk’s works are hand-inked. She did a tremendous job delivering the transitions and jumps from flashbacks to present. I remember audibly gasping by the end of a chapter once, thinking damn that’s a full circle moment, absolute cinema. I should note that it’s in black & white for the crowd that only reads colored manhwas but honestly, y’all should still give it a shot. Most of the peak manhwas I’ve read were in black & white, Dark Heaven and Midnight Men, for instance.

Kang Yesol is mercurial and sly, you’ll definitely fall in love with his scintillating wit. Just like his style of play, he’s aggressive and provocative. He’s been my source of entertainment for the past year. He’s wallowing in remorse and always drinking the sorrows away but even amid a blackout he can recognize Hanrim by his pitching routine from 10 years ago. Very endearing if you ask me.

Hanrim Jeong my beloved, is a yearner at heart. He’s calm and gentle, the type of guy who gives his cat an ugly name >!stinky!< so it can live longer🥹. Hanrim’s desperation for Yesol is apparent, his eyes always betray him and showcase a lasting love and woe.

It’s a tale of two very distinct lovers, their relationship is intriguing, a pitcher and his catcher. The monthly updates are excruciating but so worth it.

P.S. here’s last week’s recommendation, in case you missed it hehe.

Recommendation Thursday 🎸

Thinking of recommending manhwas/mangas I thoroughly enjoy and making it a weekly series, starting off with an underrated read that I haven’t seen many talk about and no posts popped up when I used the search bar.

Title: Rockstar Never Die 🎸

Status: S1 is complete with 31 chapters and S2 is ongoing.

Smut: yes

Synopsis: Jungseo reunites with Hyosin, the boy he once admired in high school, only for a drunken accident to leave Hyosin with a broken nose and under Jungseo’s roof. As they begin living together, Jungseo realizes Hyosin is nothing like the person he once idolized… and decides to help him find the courage to chase his dream again.

Author & Artist: Jiong

My review: I went in with no expectations but I genuinely loved this manhwa. The art was lovely, not a style I usually seek but it gave off early 2000s shoujo, which made me feel nostalgic. Hyosin’s a flawed character; all his struggles felt palpable and made me connect with him, his fear of disappointing others, his struggle with food, him feeling suffocated by the one thing that used to bring him immense joy. On the other hand, Jungseo’s unwavering support for Hyosin was incredibly touching to witness. He’s always been his no. 1 fan and his biggest cheerleader, even from afar. Their quarrels felt raw and the nervousness of their first date was so sweet. I can’t wait for the new chapters! I hope Hyosin falls in love with music again and makes it big.

Category: vampires 🧃

I’m asking for your best vampire yaoi, I want something with beautiful art and a great plot. I attached pics of my faves that I throughly enjoyed and highly recommend + mini reviews.

1. Vassalord (manga) 🩸

Status: complete

Smut: no but the feeding scenes are insanely intimate and did it for me.

Review: Rayflo and Charles my beloveds <3. One of the first vampire BL content I’ve ever consumed. I read it ages ago, but I still remember loving the characters, story and the gorgeous art.

2. A Lovely Meal (manhwa) 🩸

Status: ongoing

Smut: no

Review: I loved it, it was incredibly wholesome. The art style was lovely and the pacing was good. I’m eagerly anticipating season 2.

3. Hide Mansion (manhwa) 🩸

Status: complete

Smut: yes

Review: same creator as Dead or Alive, which is another gem that I highly recommend. This couple was so precious to me. I loved the art, the plot and their chemistry. Gerard’s eyes are super captivating, I too would do anything for him🥹🥹

4. In the House of the Damned (manhwa) 🩸

Status: complete

Smut: yes

Review: MAGNIFICENT art, I was enamored by the colors in each and every panel, captivating plot and overall 10/10 would recommend.

5. Fangs (manga) 🩸

Status: ongoing (praying for volume 4)

Smut: yes

Review: “A wound is an entryway for light”. I absolutely loved everything about Fangs, the characters, the plot, the depth, the cool modernization of vampires, their unmatched drip, the world-building. It’s so so peak!!

6. Thirst (webtoon) 🩸

Status: complete

Smut: yes (bonus: they’re >!versatile!<🎁)

7. A Homeless Vampire (manhwa) 🩸

Status: complete

Smut: yes

Review: the story was alright, a tad generic, but I adored the art and wished it was longer bc it had the potential to be better.

Also, I watched Mignon and ep 12 altered my brain chemistry. I heard the webtoon is basically just panels from the animation so I never bothered reading it and I dropped Blood Link around chapter 45. I’m a huge fan of BWAT nim but I just couldn’t stomach this one and it’s okay.

Plz give me recommendations based on these bc I’m practically starving😭. I genuinely hope you guys enjoy em as much as I did and do check tags beforehand. Happy reading xx

I was scrolling on twitter and was shocked to see that the manhwa Payback got turned into a Thai series that’s airing on the 30th of May.

Honestly, this manhwa holds a special place in my heart. The art was beautiful, the character of Yoohan was portrayed greatly, his grief, his guilt and growth were all so beautifully written but I do wish we got to see some chapters through Jay’s eyes. It had a tremendous potential tbh but at some point the story just got lost in showbiz, sidelining the revenge plot and the development of their relationship.

I still really enjoyed it though, and I’ll always recommend it. I hope the series doesn’t butcher it and acc lives up to expectations. Also I watched the teaser and couldn’t spot Wacko’s dimples so I’m kinda disappointed but the series does have the chance to reach the heights the manhwa couldn’t quite reach.

P.S. Have you read the novel? If yes, did you like it better than the manhwa? I’m debating whether I should start it while waiting for the episodes to drop👀
