Quoted $7900 to hookup Grill to gas

I received a quote and curious if I’m crazy for thinking this is insane.

I bought a new house and the BBQ sits 6 feet from the Gas output on the side of the house. The grill came with the natural gas connection. The area from the gas output to the grill is crushed rocks. I’ve dug them up before to run electric and it’s maybe 2 inches of rocks then dirt.

Company quoted me $3975 to hookup the grill.

Out of curiosity I asked them how much to hook the fire pit up as well which is about another 20 feet from the grill. Same crushed stone leading up to it. They wanted $7600 for both.

The estimate just says $185/foot and nothing about the cost of the hardware, hookup, or anything. They confirmed the output provided was sufficient so no upgrades needed.

Is this normal ?

Update: I emailed them back asking for details on why the price was so high. This is how they responded

“All trenches dug are 18”-24”- we use a plastic PE piping used best for underground gas piping.

We charge per foot to trench and run the gas line. “
