Help me ID this old copper!! New England find.
I dug a great mystery coin today - this site has produced some early American coinage - a Massachusetts copper, a KG II copper, shoe buckles, pewter spoons, Rosehead nails, etc. Therefore I'm assuming this is a 1700's piece, but it could be early 1800's. The reverse has a flowing script monogram which immediately made me think of a 1700's Russian Kopek, but it is not symmetrical, and the obverse of the coin has what I assume to be a small-ish and rather indistinct bust.
I think the middle letter is an M, and it looks something like PMG/PMC/RMC - it's hard to read definitively. Hoping someone will know it at a glance. I have included a photoshopped version of the monogram that shows the lines I can make out with the naked eye. The mystery is eating at me - any help greatly appreciated!!
