Wassup yall. Long story short, my rental looks like shitball, and as a painting contractor, my wife won’t let us live like this lol. I started ripping my bathroom down to nothing to start making the necessary repairs, and noticed a thicker piece of flooring in a spot a cabinet used to sit. I want to redo the floor and I know the right way is to remove the old flooring, but can I put new flooring on top of the existing flooring? I see a consistent gap at the bottom of the wall where the floor meets the wall. The flooring down now is some cheap flooring majority of landlords use.
Here are pictures of my flooring, the uneven piece of flooring to the rest of the bathroom floor, and the consistent .5” gap at the bottom of the wall.
