saw a house listed for 45k. 1920s. looked rough but solid. thought id be smart and snap it up. fix it up over time make a profit.

well im 6 months in and i havent even touched the kitchen yet. all my money and time has gone into stuff i didnt see coming. roof needed replacing. electrical was dodgy

and the worst part. i have no idea what ive actually spent. receipts everywhere. some in my truck. some in my pocket. some i think i just lost. i stopped adding it up cause it was too depressing.

anyone else buy a cheap old house and just lose track of the budget completely. or am i the only one whos this disorganised

Been remote for about two years now and just hit a wall I wasn't expecting. The freedom side of this lifestyle gets talked about constantly but the actual day to day grind feels very different from what I imagined when I started.

For me the biggest surprise was how much mental energy goes into logistics that have nothing to do with actual work. Finding reliable wifi, figuring out banking across countries, dealing with time zone gaps with clients, hunting for a decent coworking space in a new city every few weeks. It adds up fast and nobody really warned me about that side of things.

I also underestimated how hard it is to build any kind of routine when your environment keeps changing. Some people thrive on that variety and I get it, but personally my productivity took a hit before I figured out systems that actually worked for me.

Curious what caught others off guard. Whether you've been doing this for six months or six years, there's probably something you wish someone had told you before you made the leap.
