The story was set in England and written by a British author.
The main character is a woman who moves to a small town to hide/escape from her abusive and dangerous ex-boyfriend (or something around there)
She falls in love with her next-door neighbour, who is very kind and helpful — always helping her settle into her new home.
I'm pretty sure there is a scene where her ex found her and the neighbour fought him off.
It was a romance/adult fiction. Any ideas?
