Trying to figure out a bakery I ate from in the 2000s
In the (mid-late) 2000s, one of my friends had the same birthday cake each year. It was a chocolate cake with frosting -- it was pretty simple I think, I can't recall if it had layers or not. It was pretty dense and very chocolatey -- not a light fluffy type cake.
For some reason, I thought it was bought at a bakery at Sutton Place Hotel. But from what I can see, Sutton Place has never had a bakery. I know my friends mom worked downtown and I believe she got the cake somewhere downtown... anyone recall a bakery or somewhere you could buy a cake that might have sounded like Sutton Place? Or maybe any other hotels in the area that you could buy a cake from? Or even.. did anyone eat a really delicious dense chocolate in the late 2000s and can recall where it's from? lol, I know it's kind of ridiculous but I was obsessed with this cake and would love to try it again. I've tried baking myself but have had no success replicating what I remember.
