I’m in NJ, approx 1600 sq ft home, 1.5T system. AC system is approaching end of life (20+ years old) and I know I need to replace it. Part of our issue is that the man level has one vent, not enough supply to properly cool it. And the the second floor, three rooms, three vents, but so little air flow moving through these that the second floor does not cool properly.

We’ve gotten a couple of quotes but are getting conflicting courses of action. My question: one company is saying increasing the ducts from 6” to 7”, along with increasing our unit from 1.5T to 2.5T would resolve our issues. Second company is saying we need additional supply to the rooms upstairs along with increasing size to 2.5 or 3T. Which is correct?
