Terrains – Catan-inspired game (Beta)

Hey everyone! 👋

In my last post I shared some early footage of the Catan-inspired game I've been building, and a few of you gave me some really solid feedback — thank you, I actually implemented several of those suggestions!

⚠️ Quick heads-up before you dive in: this is a beta release. That means some things might not work perfectly yet, and that's completely expected — I'm actively working on fixes and improvements with every update.

Since it's beta, the servers hosting the game haven't been given full resources yet, so if you experience a slowdown or a hiccup mid-game, that's likely the reason. Please don't let it discourage you — just refresh and jump back in!

Now I'd love your help taking it further. If you have a few minutes, please give it a try and let me know:

🔴 Anything that feels broken or off

🐛 Bugs or errors you run into

💡 Features or changes you think would improve the experience

📱 How it plays on mobile vs desktop — both views are supported

📋 A note on accounts & data:

The game has an account system — registration is there so you can save custom maps, set up your avatar, and keep track of your matches. The database only stores the basic info needed to manage those features, nothing beyond that.

One thing still in development: password recovery isn't available yet. so please dont forget your password

I genuinely can't overstate how much your feedback means to me. Every bug report, every suggestion, every "this felt weird" comment goes directly into making this better.

Drop your thoughts in the comments. Thank you! 🙏🎲

Hey everyone! 🫡🫡🫡🫡

I got tired of how most online Catan-style games look and feel, so I challenged myself to build one from scratch as a personal project. It's called Terrains — it runs in the browser and I added real-time chat to make it feel a bit more social, since that's half the experience of a board game anyway.

I went with a steampunk theme for the whole thing — felt like a fresh take compared to the usual medieval or generic fantasy styles you see everywhere. The two screenshots below show the lobby (where you can create rooms, check rankings and edit your profile) and the actual game board.

But honestly what I'm most curious about is you guys:

🔸What's something every online Catan-style game gets wrong that drives you crazy?

🔸If you could design your dream online board game experience, what would it have?

🔸Does the steampunk style work for this type of game or does it feel out of place?

I'm not trying to sell anything — just a developer who loves this type of game and wanted to build something better for myself. Figured this community would have the best opinions 🙏
