Purchased these matching mid-century desks to use as practice for refinishing a bigger piece I bought. 2nd photo is how they looked when I bought them. This is my first time doing a restoration. I cleaned, stripped, sanded 80/120/180/220, pre-stained, and then stained with semi-transparent dark walnut. It came out looking more “rustic” than mid-century. I don’t really want to take it back to the teak look. I was wanting a warmer walnut look to it. How can I fix this? Or do I need to start over? I assume it has to do with the type of wood. Would using a solid stain rather than semi-transparent give a better result?
