Does anyone know what this is?

Growing on a roof terrace in Béziers, Southern France. Growing fast and visited by an insect that looks like some kind of wasp. Should I destroy it, run for the hills or call for someone in protective clothing? It is currently about 2cm in diameter but it was not there this time last week

Guidance please

Growing on a wooden door alongside 3 others. This one is currently about 5mm long. I presume it is an insect larva but it could be a plant or a fungus. I am in Béziers in the South of France. Does anyone recognise it?
