Why is Halloween a holiday where kids are expected to show up to stranger's houses asking for candy?

Why is it the only holiday in the US that does that? Do other countries/cultures have holidays where you're expected to get stuff from strangers? Why aren't there more holidays where you are expected to interact with strangers?

It just seems so weird that Halloween is the only holiday where you interact with complete strangers and you get stuff out of the interaction despite never knowing them.
