Wasteco - Being Ai
A couple of years back I decided to buy some WasteCo shares. They’d just listed and were on Sharesies, so I figured, “stuff it, I’ll back a Kiwi company.” Seemed like they were doing some pretty interesting stuff.
Anyway… turns out that was not one of my finer investing moments. My $1k is basically a donation at this point. Ah well, ya win some, ya meme some.
I ended up looking into the company again recently after reading the annual report. Pretty grim reading. Two deaths in eight months, which is awful, and then there are the pretty chunky losses over the last few years. While I was digging around, a couple of the directors’ names rang a bell. Turns out they were also involved in another one of my investing masterclasses: Being AI. Remember that meme stock that somehow ended up owning a random school building in Northland as an asset?
At this point I’ve accepted that I’m probably not cut out for stock picking. Somehow BurgerFuel is still keeping my portfolio on life support though.
