Breathing better through spacer than nose

Is this normal? I’m having a mild asthma attack and though I can breathe through my nose and mouth it results in coughing and shortness of breath however, when I breathe through my inhaler spacer (no albuterol in it) I’m breathing just fine consistently. Has anyone else noticed this?
