Former employer refuses IRCC-style reference letter. Will a generic offer letter + unsigned job description be enough?
Hi everyone,
I’m applying through Express Entry (CEC) and I’m having trouble obtaining a proper employment reference letter from a former employer.
I requested an IRCC-style employment letter that includes my job duties, dates of employment, hours worked, salary, and a signature from an authorized representative. The company declined and instead provided:
An employment verification/offer letter
The original job description from when I was hired on company letterhead
Pay stubs
The job description is on company letterhead, but it is not signed and does not specifically state that I performed those duties. It appears to be the generic JD that was used when I was hired.
I’ve followed up twice asking if they could simply provide a signed letter confirming that I performed those duties during my employment, but they have refused.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did IRCC accept a combination of an employment letter, original job description, pay stubs, and an LOE when a detailed reference letter was unavailable?
This was a large employer, so unfortunately I don’t have much leverage to push further.
I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences and whether anyone was approved with similar documentation.
Thanks!
