Alpha Foxtrot lacks standards
So first off I would like to say that the Romulus is a good looking pistol. The DLC coating looks great as well, along with a crisp trigger that breaks around 3 to 3.5 lbs. The slide release can be activated with your shooting hand so no need to break your grip. And a full length dust cover to boot. Ohh and a aluminum magwell.
The amount of options you get with the pistol it should seem like it would be great. We'll in my experience you would be totally wrong and all of that stops there. This pistol was and has been one of the most unreliable firearms I have ever had. Out of the box it ran somewhat okay for four mags. After that it began it's decent into the netherworld.
The second range trip I had around total of 40 malfuntions put of 300 rounds. The third range trip which brought me to almost 800 rounds it nearly doubled in malfuntions. Totaling around 120 malfuntions in 800 rounds with a mix of light primer strikes to ftf and failure to eject. Mostly the ftfs and eject.
The optics plate would come loose after around 200 rounds every range trip. Even with blue loctite and 18lbs of pressure. The correct screws were used and loctite as well with the same pressure. So after the third range session I sent it back in to be checked out. It was kept for 13 days. They claimed to tune the extractor and polished the feed ramp.
Upon getting it back I waited until I could get to the range to film it. And what do you know failures back to back on the first mag. A total of 5 in 20 rounds. With almost 100 rounds it got progressively worse. So I sent it back in again. This time they kept it for around 15 days. I was told the whole upper had been replaced. Well the slide, barrel, and extractor, which was supposed to had been tuned as well with a barrel polish.
I got it back again I did not open it until I could document the event. Out of the box the optic plate was loose. Which to me that is not a sign of doing anything to the pistol itself. If you replace the whole upper how does the optic not get installed correctly. From the looks of it. It was the same as when I sent it back in. As the optic plate was loose.
I took it to the range after swapping optics and tightening everything down for the optics. I did not take the pistol apart to clean it I wanted to shooting it as is. So Noone could say I done anything to it. 250 rounds in something snapped and the pistol totally locked down. I could not get it to move at all.
I sent it back in again stating I do not want this pistol back and that I would like a new one. Fast forward a month later not a word from Alpha Foxtrot after multiple attempts on my end to see what the status was. It should not take a month to replace a pistol. It only took them 13 to 15 days to repair the last one.
So I had to essentially force them to respond with a
Certified letter and email stating I would go to the ATF and report that they had stolen my proper and refused to contact me back or return my pistol for well over a month. Along with reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. As soon as they got the email I got a call within a hour.
To date I still have not heard why it locked up. My money is on that crapshow 2 piece guide rod and disconnector. And frankly I don't want to know. I want ad little to do with them or their products as possible.
Once it comes into my local ffl it will be sold immediately. I know for a fact that their QC is horrible. 3 times and you still can not fix a pistol. Me personally if I get a return on a pistol for the second time it will not leave my facility it would have been replaced then.
Overall my experience with this pistol and company has bee one for the books and I would never buy or touch anything that they every produce again as long as I live.
