Caveat Emptor:
prked and yourspotrented are running scam posts for WorldCup parking by taking/scraping profiles posted on SpotHero, putting that information on their sites, and booking parking spots without the owner's knowledge, and at a higher rate.
prked did this to me last week, using a post I put on SpotHero for Superbowl parking in 2022. Prked charged and booked (at least) two different people for my driveway, without my knowledge or permission, and at a much higher rate than I was charging. I discovered the scam when I came home last Fri to find a locked car parked in my driveway.
The owner was at SoFi stadium, and had booked via prked.
I contacted prked immediately, and threatened to report them to the L.A. City Attorney and the CA Attorney General if they didn't rectify it pronto. They responded quickly, shut my SpotHero post that somehow made its way to prked's website, and said they were providing a full refund to those who'd booked my driveway via that fake post. They also tried to claim that I'd put up a post on their site, when I've never had a prked account. When I provided prked my SpotHero registration in 2022, they went silent.
Yesterday, I created a new profile on SpotHero for parking for the remaining WorldCup matches at SoFi. I've heard nothing back from them as of yet.
Then today, I got an email from yourspotrented (where I've never registered) asking me to "confirm" information I'd already given to SpotHero. It's the same scam that happened with prked, and I told them they'd be talking to the CA AG if they tried it.
Both of these companies (and perhaps others) are clearly harvesting profiles from their competitor's apps (in this case, SpotHero), to create parking inventory (and demand) on their platforms. A shady growth hack based on wire fraud.
I live 1.5 miles from Sofi Stadium, and am renting out my driveway for those who will be attending the remaining World Cup games to be played there.
