Everybody talks about Midtown. The BeltLine. Buckhead.

But if you’re really paying attention to Atlanta, the real shift is happening somewhere else…

Campbellton Road.

Right now, Campbellton is in that in-between phase. Not fully developed, not untouched either. But if you understand how cities grow, you know this is where things start to get real.

Here’s what’s happening:

The city is putting serious money behind the corridor through redevelopment programs

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority is planning a Bus Rapid Transit line running straight through it

Developers are already moving—buying land, planning mixed-use projects, and building housing

That’s the formula.

Transit → Investment → Development → Attention

We’ve seen this play out before.

But here’s the difference—Campbellton still feels like real Atlanta. Not polished. Not packaged. Just everyday people, local businesses, and a culture that hasn’t been reshaped yet.

That’s why this moment matters.

Because once the transit comes… once the developments finish… once the attention shifts…

It won’t feel the same.

At the same time, there’s a real conversation that needs to be had:

Who actually benefits from all this?

Because development can bring opportunity—but it can also bring displacement if it’s not handled right.

So Campbellton Road isn’t just a “growth story.”

It’s a test.

A test of whether Atlanta can evolve without losing the people and culture that made it what it is.

If you know the city, you already see what’s coming.

If you don’t… just give it time.

I’m proud to see the continued progress being made to expand access to healthy food options in Southwest Atlanta. Addressing neighborhood nutrition and eliminating food deserts has long been a priority for our city, and I’m grateful to see the work that began during my time as Council President, alongside Mayor Andre Dickens, continue to move forward for the benefit of our communities.

I also want to commend Councilmember Wayne Martin for the wonderful job he is doing leading this effort in District 11 and for hosting the recent community update on the Campbellton Azalea Market project. Thank you as well to our community partners — the Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA and Invest Atlanta — for their collaboration and commitment to bringing this much-needed grocery store closer to reality for Southwest Atlanta residents.
