worried i picked the wrong salon

hi! i can’t sleep at allll since i’m getting stressed about this salon. for the past few weeks i’ve been starting to work at this one salon as an assistant/stylist. it was going well at first however, i’ve just been having a weird feeling. i can’t tell if it’s my gut or me being anxious.

i’m worried because they don’t have me on the schedule at all until next week. one thing they did mention was one of the assistants would be leaving near the end of this month so i can be able to ask for more hours, but idk why i feel as if i’ll still get less. they also explained that me getting scheduled on the calendar are the days of me assisting and every other day i can still bring someone in, clock in and get hours. which brings me to my next point

i have very little clientele. it’s just some family members and few friends. the salon owners gave me a list of these goals i have to achieve which is finding 10 clients for each service (10 for haircutting, 10 for coloring etc) and if i don’t get all 10, i’m going to be stuck assisting. i’m trying to find some clients but what’s making it difficult is the fact that the services i have to do would be FULL price. i don’t think the prices are crazy high compared to what i see in other salons but i just think offering discounted services would have more people willing to be in my chair. (but i have no idea if i’m allowed to do that) i was told that this one girl at the salon would pay for people’s services so they can be in her chair, which i don’t have the money to do.

another thing that has me concerned is the pay dates. i’m dumb and forgot to ask what the pay schedule would be, to know if it’s biweekly or 2 times a month. i didn’t think to ask because most places i’ve worked at, it was always bi weekly. i’m nervous to ask because i don’t want them to get the idea that i’m ”in it for the money” and let me go. i love doing what i do but i got stuff to pay lmao.

i‘m just stuck on where to go from here. luckily i have 2 interviews at other salons this week so i’m able to expand my options but all in all, i’m unsure whether this was the right salon for me.

tips on finding clients

hi! i’m working as an assistant stylist and i’ve been licensed for 2 months now. when i started, they gave me a list on services i would have to do and i have to find 10 clients for each one. if i don’t find exactly 10, i’m not able to move onto the floor full time and i would be stuck assisting. main issue is i have very little clientele and also the services i would offer aren’t free …. they would have to pay for it. the first service i have to do are blowouts.

i tried posting on a facebook group located in my area and mentioned that there is a price. i had a few message me and when i told them the price ($42) one of them straight up said “never mind” and the others went ghost. i had someone say in the comments why bother making a post if it’s not free.

i know building a clientele takes time and patience but i feel worried since i know times are tough and not many are wanting pay $42 for a blowout. i don’t know if i’m able to offer a discount and realistically i don’t have the money to be able to pay for THEIR service. i’m just kinda stuck on where to go from here.
